Humans are highly social animals. We are always seeking a partner and feel a great disconnect when unable to do so (or when relationships break).
The guitar style is modelled on Leonard Cohen’s, as is the vocal style of half-spoken lyrics.
As I can’t sing any lower, I made a vocal copy and pitch-shifted it an octave down and distorted it to sound gravelly (Cohen-esque). This is mixed quieter to be a subtle undertone ... perhaps only discernible when you know it’s there?
The ‘fairground organ’ in the second chorus is a standard synth organ but with auto-arpeggiation of the chords I had played in.  I got the idea of the sound from a real fairground organ used in Being For the Benefit of Mr Kite (Sgt Pepper).
