I’m a great admirer of the Great American Songbook, melodic standards which are riddled (sometimes by Nelson Riddle?) with arrangements which have a major 5th which ascends/descends. It’s since been used countless times in pop/rock ... so why not me? 
The whole song took probably 30 minutes to complete and, due to its ‘beautiful simplicity’, I felt it should be left unadorned by other instruments. Even a solo violin sounded ‘too much’.
It has no particular structure ... at least nothing gets repeated.  It’s also one of the very few times I’ve written soppy lyrics such as “I really do love you”.  My wife Elaine remains unimpressed.
