about

This project was also instigated by Martin (my "Prescient" album partner). We both know the Pink Floyd's discography well. David Gilmour's signature sound carries through to his solo work and this track is from the 2006 album of the same name. Impossible to tackle unless you have a guitarist who can do Gilmour's trademark licks and sound.

The extra-simple but moody bass and synth organ, drums and acoustic strums formed a background texture for Martin's vocals and lead guitar. I laid down this backing and sent the components separately to Martin for him to rebuild, mix, and record his guitar and vocals. I had provided a vocal purely as a guide track as Martin can comfortably sing higher than me ... and I was struggling. He did a great job and also provided the excellent backing vocal harmonies. For whatever reason, Martin kept my vocal (after tuning tweaks!) for the last verse (3:35).

The video was done not long after but before I had re-subscribed to Artgrid. So all the clips had to come from free sites. Everything was slowed down for a cruisy feel and occasional effort was made to sync walking scenes to the beat. A few 'shadowy' scenes were added to reflect elements in the lyrics, but there was no overt story focus.
